Welcome. This is the obligatory first post: part hello, part shakedown cruise to make sure every piece of the machinery actually works.

The whole site is a pile of static HTML. There’s no server rendering pages on demand, no database, no runtime — just files that were computed once, at build time, and handed to a CDN. That constraint is a feature. It’s fast, it’s cheap, and it’s almost impossible to take down.

What’s under the hood

A short list, because every blog is legally required to have one:

  • Astro turns Markdown into HTML at build time.
  • Tailwind CSS handles styling, with a small set of hand-written rules for long-form prose.
  • Merriweather does the reading — a serif designed to be comfortable on screens.
  • Cloudflare Pages serves the result.

Writing posts

Each post is a Markdown (or MDX) file in src/posts/. The frontmatter is validated at build time, so a typo in a date or a missing title fails loudly instead of shipping something broken:

---
title: "Hello, World"
description: "A first post."
date: "2026-07-06"
tags: ["meta", "astro"]
---

Inline code looks like this, and you can always fall back to a footnote1 when a thought doesn’t fit in the sentence.

The best time to start a blog was ten years ago. The second best time is right after you finish yak-shaving the build pipeline.

That’s it for the tour. The next few posts have actual content.
